How to Unlock Weapon Combos

Quick Answer

Use the weapon type in combat to gain mastery, then inspect its combo entry in the Masteries menu. Exact unlock levels for every weapon are not verified for Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x.

To unlock weapon combos in Emberville’s public Demo, keep using the weapon type whose combo line you want to develop. Weapon progression is use-based: the weapon gains mastery as you fight with it, and mastery levels can unlock combos alongside passives and other weapon-specific benefits. A purchase shortcut, universal character-level requirement, or fixed crafting recipe is not confirmed for this Demo.

This guide applies to public Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x as of October 28, 2026. The mastery system can unlock combos, but every advertised weapon and later combo is not confirmed as accessible in this Demo. Use the entry shown in your own Masteries menu to check what is currently available.

The Confirmed Unlock Path

The supported path has three parts: use a weapon, gain mastery in that weapon type, and inspect the newly unlocked combo in the Masteries menu. This matters because the progression belongs to the weapon proficiency. Merely owning, crafting, or viewing a weapon is not shown to grant its combo line, and changing class alone is not confirmed to unlock a weapon combo.

The tutorial introduces the Masteries menu when you learn your first mastery and combo. Weapon mastery can also grant passives and special benefits, so check the actual reward attached to your current progression instead of expecting a new combo after every increase.

How to Unlock a Weapon Combo Step by Step

  1. Confirm which weapon type is equipped. Open the equipment or inventory view and identify the weapon you are actually taking into combat. Do not infer the active mastery from an item sitting elsewhere in the inventory. If you recently switched weapons, make the equipped item your starting reference before judging whether progress has stalled.

  2. Use that weapon during ordinary combat. The strongest available statement is that weapon types level by being used. It does not specify that a particular enemy, boss, location, or difficulty is required. Choose encounters you can repeat safely enough to observe the system without confusing a failed fight with failed mastery progression.

  3. Keep the weapon type consistent during the test. A short, controlled session with one weapon makes the result easier to interpret. This is a diagnostic method, not a requirement for an uninterrupted streak.

  4. Watch for mastery or combo feedback. The tutorial can announce a learned mastery and newly unlocked combo. Wording may differ by build, so inspect the menu instead of relying only on a pop-up.

  5. Open the Masteries menu and select the relevant weapon proficiency. The Demo keyboard tutorial uses K for this menu; controllers, remapped controls, or later builds may use another binding. Use the binding shown by your current control settings or tutorial prompt. The menu is described as covering both combat and non-combat proficiencies, so make sure you are looking at the weapon entry rather than an unrelated proficiency.

  6. Read the unlocked combo entry before trying it. Open the combo detail to check what the move is and how it functions. Use the sequence displayed in your own menu. A universal input string is not confirmed, so a remembered sequence from another weapon or build is not a reliable substitute.

  7. Perform the displayed inputs in order. The tutorial describes a correct input sequence releasing a special attack. If it fails, first check whether the combo is visibly unlocked, separating execution from unlock status.

  8. Repeat the process for each weapon type you want to develop. Weapon types have individual mastery progression, animations, combo lines, and passives. Progress on one weapon should not be treated as proof that another weapon's combo is ready. The exact amount of use required remains unconfirmed for Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x.

Weapon Mastery Is the Key Check

The practical distinction is between having access to a weapon and having developed its mastery. An equipment screen can tell you what you possess and what is equipped. The Masteries menu holds proficiency information and combo details. When those screens seem to disagree, use them to answer two different questions: “Which weapon am I using?” and “What has this weapon mastery unlocked?”

The class screen is another separate checkpoint. Emberville's wider design includes class skills alongside weapon combos, but a class-change requirement for ordinary weapon-combo progression is not confirmed. If you are searching the class menu for a weapon input sequence, return to the combat proficiency area of Masteries. Conversely, a class-menu access problem should not automatically be diagnosed as a failed weapon unlock.

Changing class, equipping a newly found item, or using a crafting station may matter elsewhere, but those actions are not confirmed to award a weapon combo. The supported test remains equipped weapon, weapon use, mastery feedback, then the combo entry.

How to Read a Newly Unlocked Combo

First confirm the state of the entry. An unlocked entry should provide usable information rather than only an empty or teased space. Hover over a combo to reveal its description and behavior; on another input method, use the current interface's equivalent focus or detail action. Do not assume that a blank future slot is a malfunction.

Separate the sequence from the outcome. Use the menu for the required inputs and the description for the intended move. Reproduce the displayed sequence before adding movement, weapon switching, or other actions.

Verify the result by animation and behavior. If the move looks like a basic attack chain while the entry is unlocked, retry the shown order under simpler conditions. Timing windows, cancellation rules, and resource costs should be checked for the exact move in your current build.

When Mastery or the Combo Appears Stuck

Use the symptom you can actually observe. The following checks are suggestions for isolating the problem; none is a guaranteed fix for a Demo problem.

No Visible Mastery Progress

Recheck the equipped weapon before and after combat. If the expected weapon was only in the inventory, equip it and run another controlled test. If it was equipped, avoid switching weapon types during the next comparison. Then reopen the relevant combat proficiency in Masteries and look for any changed level, bar, entry state, or notification that your current build exposes.

Do not invent a target number of enemies or minutes. Weapon mastery levels through use, but the exact event counted and progress awarded are not confirmed here. If repeated use changes nothing, record the Demo version, weapon type, and whether other masteries advance instead of assuming a threshold.

Mastery Increased but No New Combo Appeared

An increase in mastery does not prove that every level awards a combo. Mastery progression includes passives and other special benefits, so a mastery gain may correspond to a different reward. Inspect the whole weapon entry for the next visible unlock rather than expecting a combo at every increase.

Also check whether the supposed next combo is a real current entry or merely a teaser space. Some weapon types and visibly teased spaces belong to the broader 1.0 design, while this is a pre-Early Access Demo. A future-facing slot is not evidence that its contents can be unlocked now.

The Combo Is Unlocked but Will Not Execute

Return to the combo detail and copy the displayed order exactly. Confirm that the same weapon type remains equipped. Test without mixing in weapon swaps or unrelated actions. These steps help distinguish a wrong sequence from an unavailable unlock, but they do not establish an exact timing window or a universal control layout.

If you use a controller or custom bindings, compare the menu's displayed actions with the current control settings rather than translating a keyboard letter from a video. The keyboard tutorial binding is build- and device-specific. It should not override the prompts shown by your installation.

The Relevant Menu Does Not Open

Treat menu access and combo progression as separate symptoms. Verify the current binding and whether other menus respond. If the class screen fails while Masteries still opens, continue the weapon check in Masteries; class-menu access is not a confirmed prerequisite for reading a weapon combo. If Masteries itself cannot be reached, you cannot reliably confirm the unlock state from combat animation alone.

Restarting, rebinding, or changing devices are possible tests, not proven fixes. Preserve the version, input device, and exact failing menu when reporting the problem.

Demo Limits That Change the Answer

As of October 28, 2026, Emberville itself has not entered Early Access; Early Access is scheduled for January 7, 2027, and the public experience being documented is Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x. Future advertised systems cannot be treated as proof of current Demo access. This is especially important for weapon slots, later mastery rewards, and any feature shown as part of the path toward version 1.0.

The broader weapon design describes three combos for each weapon and leaves room for future expansion. That does not confirm that all three are obtainable for every weapon in Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x, or establish their exact unlock thresholds. If your menu shows fewer options, report what the current interface exposes rather than trying to force an unlock from a later showcase.

The reliable completion check is therefore modest and observable: you use the intended weapon type, its mastery advances, a combo entry becomes available, the menu reveals the sequence, and that sequence produces the associated special attack. If any link in that chain is missing, diagnose that specific link. Do not fill the gap with a guessed level, purchase, recipe, class requirement, or input string.
